Mexican-Themed Party Menu Ideas

Food & Cooking Blog

With the right ambiance and menu items, you can make guests feel as though they're in a quaint, cozy Mexican restaurant when they attend your party. A Mexican restaurant theme is ideal for a wide range of special event types, such as birthday or holiday parties, anniversary soirees and graduation celebrations. It's even more appropriate if the party celebrant's or honoree's favorite cuisine is Mexican.

A Mexican party menu is sure to be a crowd-pleaser if you include a variety of traditional, vegetarian and even vegan items. If you're providing appetizers, dinner and dessert, set the dishes up buffet-style so that guests can pick and choose their favorite treats.

Here are some Mexican-inspired goodies to consider for your next special event:

Appetizers

1. Queso Dip and Salsa

It wouldn't be a Mexican-themed celebration without a bowl of hot, creamy queso dip and fresh-tasting salsa, so be sure to provide enough to go around. Depending on how much time you have, you can either make the dips yourself or buy the jarred versions.

If you choose to make the queso, you can make a traditional white version using a cheese, such as American, that melts well, in addition to shredded mozzarella or Fontina. Add canned chopped tomatoes, finely diced jalapenos or green chilies if you want a little heat, and spices such as cumin and garlic powder to taste.

Provide a choice of mild, medium and hot salsas to appeal to all of your guests' taste. Set out several bowls of crispy tortilla chips as well.

2. Taquitos

Fill small flour or corn tortillas with a variety of fillings, such as cheese, refried beans or shredded chicken, roll them, and then bake or fry them until they're crunchy for a perfect handheld treat. Serve the taquitos with sour cream and salsa for dipping.

Main Courses

1. Taco Dip

One fun main course idea is taco dip, which you can make by combining cream cheese, sour cream and taco seasoning, and then spreading it on the bottom of a cake pan as the base. Next, add layers of shredded cheese and lettuce, as well as chopped tomatoes, green olives and green onions, in any order you'd like. Serve with tortilla chips.

2. Enchiladas

Found on almost every Mexican restaurant menu, enchiladas are sure to delight all of your party-goers. Fill flour tortillas with cheese or vegan cheese, or meats such as shredded port or grilled shrimp, and then roll them up. Place the rolls next to each other in a baking dish, cover with green or red enchilada sauce, and then top with cheese before baking. Serve with avocado slices and sour cream.

Desserts

1.Mexican Hot Chocolate

Ideal for winter events, Mexican hot chocolate has a spicy kick with vanilla, cinnamon and even a touch of cayenne pepper. Top with whipped cream as a decadent dessert.

2. Churros

Crispy fried dough sticks covered in cinnamon sugar, churros will make the perfect sweet ending to any Mexican-inspired celebration. For more information, see this website.

Eating Better Food At Home

After I was diagnosed with a slow metabolism, my doctor told me that I needed to pay closer attention to what I was eating and how I was cooking. I started reading more and more about different cooking methods, and I was even able to take a local cooking class to help me to learn how to cook better. It was amazing to see the difference that proper eating made in my life. I found myself happier, healthier, and more energetic. This blog is dedicated to helping people to eat a little healthier at home, so that you can enjoy the lifestyle you deserve.
